How to Inflate your Tires

Schrader Valve

image
Make sure that the pump is set up to inflate a schrader valve, then press the pumps nozzle over the valve and flip the lever so that it locks on. Then pump to the recommended pressure (which can be found written on the side of the tire), and flip the lever to the unlock position and pull it off of the valve. An air compressor can also be used to inflate these types of tubes.

Presta Valve

To pump up a presta valve you must have a bicycle specific pump that will pump presta valves. First, you have to unscrew the nut at the top of valve, which will let air in and out. Next push the pumps nozzle on the valve and flip the lever to lock it on. Once you have the tube to the preferred pressure just flip the lever down to unlock it, remove the pump, and screw the nut on the valve back down.

Presta Valve Adapter

There is a valve adapter, which will allow you to inflate a presta tube with a schrader valve pump. To use the adapter, just unscrew the nut on the presta valve as if you were going to inflate it, then screw the adapter on, with the wide end facing toward the valve, and then you can use the schrader pump on that valve. Once you are finished pumping, take the adaptor off and screw the nut on the presta valve back down to prevent air from leaking out of the tube.
